So I am going to my first rally race tomorrow, and what better way to experience it than to volunteer for spectator safety?

A few questions:

What should I bring with me?

Anything obvious that I should know about a rally in general?

Anything I should know specifically about working a rally?

Is anyone else going to be there?

Bring clothes for all temperatures and a poncho. You can bring a camp chair, but there’s good odds you won’t use it much. Aside from that just listen to the stage captain and rallymaster and you’ll be good. And don’t run out in front of a car on the slalom*

*May have done this on an O’Neil visit.

Did you love it?! What did you do?

I was driving the Nacho Libre R1

I was a worker for spectator control at the finish line. Yeah, it was great! It was the first time I had attended a rally. Those Fiestas are much faster than I would have thought they would be, I was rather impressed.

Yes, they have quite the potential to be quick little cars. The open class ones especially, but the R2s are also. Ironically, the Euro gearbox (and cams) make that R1 a Group 2 car, but is also what gives me the most trouble. Being in the finish area, you may or may not have noticed some issues with that during stages 5-6... oops.
